On the Voice Referendum outcome

Everyone deserves to have a say, and to be heard, when it comes to matters that affect their own lives. As an organisation that serves LGBTIQ+ people, we know how it feels to be the subject of a national debate and vote. That is why we believe it is essential that we come together at this moment.

Pride Cup was built to show that it is our diversity that makes our communities strong. This is the value we hold when we think about the referendum results and the impact of the campaign on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Across this continent, sport brings people together and it also shines a light on our society’s faultlines. We remain committed to building a more inclusive society, to tackling difficult conversations with open hearts and curious minds. We will build on the progress made by millions of people, including incredible First Nations athletes, to make sport everyone’s game.

– Hayley Conway, Pride Cup.

Pride Cup acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants of the nation and the traditional custodians of the lands where we live, learn and work.
