Pride Cup and The Snow Foundation launch the Community Pride Cup Fund for Sport Clubs across the ACT and Southern NSW
Pride Cup, in partnership with The Snow Foundation, today launched a new Community Pride Cup Fund. This groundbreaking initiative will provide funding to 15 sport clubs to host LGBTIQ+ inclusion events in the Australian Capital Territory and Southern New South Wales during the 2024-2025 summer and winter sports seasons.
“Research shows that 80 per cent of Australians have experienced or witnessed homophobia in sport,” Pride Cup CEO Hayley Conway said. “Yet we also know that participating in a Pride Cup reduces homophobic behaviour by 40-50% and sends a welcoming message to LGBTIQ+ people who want to participate.
“That’s why Pride Cup is extremely proud to partner with The Snow Foundation to provide 15 local sporting clubs with the opportunity to host an inaugural Pride Cup at their club.”
The Snow Foundation said the collaboration is focused on creating a significant impact on LGBTIQ+ individuals and the community.
“The Snow Foundation is committed to supporting the LGBTIQ+ community by driving systemic change and providing for grassroots community impact programs,” The Snow Foundation CEO Georgina Byron said.
“This dedication spans 12 years, from the Marriage Equality plebiscite to supporting advocacy through Equality Australia and the Amplify Pride Fund. Our partnership with the Community Pride Cup Fund is a natural extension of our mission to foster inclusivity and create environments where everyone feels welcome and valued.”
"We hope that these new Pride Cup events in the ACT and Southern NSW will help reduce discrimination within local sports and promote a culture of respect and acceptance.”
Iconic rainbow themed game day events, ‘Pride Cups’, are increasingly a part of the sporting calendar, as community and elite sporting teams across the country endeavour to end LGBTIQ+ discrimination in their codes. These events build and celebrate relationships between local sports clubs and LGBTIQ+ people in their community.
Through the partnership, 15 clubs are supported to host their inaugural PrideRound or PrideGame event, with a $1,000 contribution towards reusable rainbow game day assets, such as pride uniforms, for each participating club. Clubs will also receive ongoing support for each PrideGame event, and an LGBTIQ+ inclusion education session.
